I enjoy creating surrealist and abstract contemporary artwork. My distinctive style is a blend of inspiration, experimentation, and passion. Here on my website I would like to share with you my vibrant and tactile sculptural work. It is my rebellion against the intangible digital world where I spent most of my working life. My art is a product of my imagination and I invite you to explore the extraordinary with me.
I draw my inspiration from the unusual, occasionally humorous aspects of life and my materials. My recent collection “The Music of life” was inspired by the music I paint to: Jazz, Louis Armstrong, REM, Queen and Joe Cocker, and by a 100 year old book of musical scores I found at a vintage book sale.
The Banana Philosophy Collection tries to be inspiring, amusing and attempts to be philosophical. I started last year when I heard a woman on the radio describe how everyday she gave her husband a banana to take to work with a message on it. She wouldn't say what the messages were, so I bought bananas wrote messages on with a sharpie and gave them to my husband to take to work. I photographed the bananas to use as collage. The best ones made it into the collection.
I have a story for each piece. I am inspired by vivid dreams or something I have seen which sparks an emotion. I create using an eclectic range of materials: acrylics, acrylic mediums, glass beads, gold leaf, maps, musical score, metal mesh and painted paper collage. Everything is created to a high standard and is made to last.
My practice is built on pushing the artistic limits of my ideas and materials. I am a perpetual explorer, constantly seeking new materials and surfaces of the highest quality and made to last the test of time. I am driven to push boundaries and hope to share the experience with you.
